President's Report

Greetings NACE members and industry professionals!

Thank you Graves 601.  We had a quality meeting on March 3 with a presentation by Chef Trojahn on Small Plates.  We are all proud to have this showcase hotel in the Twin Cities and appreciate their support of our association this month.

Please be aware of two initiatives on the political forefront that directly impact our industry.  The first is the Employee Free Choice Act legislation that impacts union properties.  The second piece of legislation that impacts our business directly pertains to  proposed restrictions in the TARP bailout bill on companies for meetings and event spending.  I encourage all of you to educate yourselves on these issues and be verbal with your local government officials. I was able to attend the NACE Leadership Summit meeting in Las Vegas a few weeks ago.  There were 115 association representatives from chapters across the country.  When I returned home, everyone wanted to know what the industry people were saying (in the context of the economy and recession) and I had to answer honestly.  Quite honestly, we didn't concentrate on that at all.  Instead, it was business as usual - people in our industry supporting each other and participating in open idea exchange to promote growth. There was only optimism and positive energy.  Afterall, we are in the business of gatherings.  People are still gathering and this will never cease.  So, we get on with our jobs!  I look forward to implementing some of the new ideas I brought back in our Twin Cities Chapter from that weekend.

See you April 1 at the conference!  As always I open to your comments and ideas to improve our Chapter.  Please do not hesitate to contact me or any of the Board members.
